Welcome to Dairy Flat

Resting on the headwaters of the Richmond river, within the Borders Ranges National Park you will find your home away from home, Dairy Flat Farm Holidays.

Established in 1924, Dairy Flat has been in the Lever family for 6 generations and today is run by your hosts Mary and Philip Lever. As well as running as a fully-fledged dairy farm supplying milk to Norco, the last 35 years Dairy Flat has become a well renowned farm stay where families have escaped the city to find respite in the beauty and tranquillity of this genuine country setting.

With three cottages as well as the stunning Homestead, you are sure to find the perfect space for your family or group of friends to enjoy. Each one seeping with character, furnished and designed with love by Mary who has hand-picked pieces from antique and boutique stores all over Australia, Dairy Flat is the ultimate country escape.

Dairy Flat is a fantastic property. It was perfect for us.

We had several families join us, 13 kids in total, to celebrate Christmas in July. Such a gorgeous homestead that is beautifully furnished with all the comforts of home. It’s situated in such a picturesque location with so much to do in such close proximity, but spacious enough to find some peace and quiet if needed. We had no reception which ensured we really felt like we had escaped. We explored, rode bikes, feed animals, played tennis and made good use of the fire pit. We cooked up a storm and roasted lamb on the spit which kept the dads occupied. Our long lunch on the sprawling sunny deck was perfect.

I’d highly recommend a weekend away at Dairy Flat. We’ve already booked for next year.

Our Rich

History

Dairy Flat has a rich history that mirrors that of the greater Northern Rivers area of New South Wales.

1880’s

In the late 1880’s the “Cedar Getters” made their way into the forests, with red cedars their prize. To this day you can still see the majestic red and white cedar trees as you wander around the river on our Tree Walk.

1920’s

Entering the 1920’s, farming became the next wave of industry, with the Lever Family being one of the first to farm the area. Walter Lever established Dairy Flat in 1924 to add to his already flourishing interests in the timber industry and provide a future for his son Allen Louis. Dairying has continued on the property for nearly 100 years, with the present farm milking around 250 head of cattle, loyally supplying milk to Norco from the very beginning.

1984

With Changing times again, tourism became part of our story in 1984, with Dairy Flat opening its doors to visitors from all over Australia and overseas, allowing generations of guests to experience the life of a true Australian farm…
